Corbas Agrifood and Distribution Cluster

Lyon wholesale market – thinking big

Corbas Agrifood and Distribution Cluster (logistics sector)

The relocation of Lyon’s wholesale market – a market of national significance – from the city's Perrache transport hub to a new site in Corbas is already under way. Alongside this project, the Greater Lyon Urban Community is developing an agrifood and distribution park on a site spanning 40 hectares.

The first construction operations for this major development project began in 2006, and a final delivery of 125,000 sqm is scheduled for the end of 2008.

20,000 sqm of market space

The sales area for the market’s 20 fruit and vegetable wholesalers will cover an area of 35,000 sqm (net floor space). Plots available for purchase range from 650 to 4,500 sqm, with an average surface area of 1,700 sqm per wholesaler. A sales area for producers is also planned and will offer 2,600 sqm of net floor space. Planning permission has been requested, and the move is scheduled to take place during the second half of 2008.

Service-sector facilities (restaurants and offices) will be provided at the entrance to the site, creating a gateway worthy of a market of this magnitude.

50,000 sqm of logistics space

50,000 sqm logistics building in Corbas Agrifood and Distribution Cluster

In order to complement the properties offered by the wholesale market and meet demand in the sector, PRD will be developing a number of warehouses of various sizes available for rent.

Just 12 km (7½ miles) from the centre of Lyon, this 50,000 sqm logistics building is ideally located close to major motorway routes. Its integration into the core of Lyon’s new wholesale market also gives it a particular stature. It is, in fact, the largest speculative logistics building constructed in the Lyon urban area, and as such boasts exceptional flexibility and adaptability. The Transalliance haulage company took possession of the premises, owned by AEW Europe, in November 2007. The building can accommodate up to four tenants, and can be divided into four 12,500 sqm units or two 25,000 sqm units (including offices).

37,470 sqm of distribution space

This building is divided into 9 units ranging from 3,800 to 4,700 sqm, and is intended to serve the needs of distributors looking for medium-sized plots to complement their activities in the wholesale market. The building has already been granted an operating licence and is due to be completion is due in April 2008. As with the logistics hub, it will offer approximately 10 metres' storage height, fire protection, and access at loading-bay and ground level.
